Essays and Personal Statements
Perhaps nothing overwhelms bright, aspiring college and graduate school applicants with more trepidation than the mandatory “personal statement.” Few of us, fortunately, have a life story marked by tremendous suffering or life-saving endeavors. Yet, in writing a personal statement that will resonate with an admissions officer, we all feel compelled to stretch and contort our generally happy lives into something otherworldly. Our approach is to help you write not about someone you are not (nor should you be) but to put forward the most truthful version of yourself in a manner that is genuine and refreshing.
Cover Letters
Reducing oneself to an 8.5-inch by 11-inch piece of paper (even after manipulating the margins and font as much as one dares) is by its very nature a demoralizing and rather dehumanizing experience. Add to that the task of trying to contextualize so little about who you really are in two brief paragraphs that tell some stranger why that makes you the ideal fit for a job is almost unconscionable. Fortunately, we can help you draw out those things that will make you and your experience — as much shortened as it has to be — compelling and engrossing to the HR screener.
Personal Communiques
Difficult though it may be to believe, there are still occasions when a heartfelt and emotionally-inspired letter from one person to another can communicate more efficiently than any other medium we utilize today. Email? Impersonal. Telephone? Too much real-time pressure. Video? Too grainy. No, sometimes the best, and most time-tested approach is the written word. We can help you find the words that you would choose to represent you, your thoughts and feelings and that will be understood as such by the one(s) you wish to reach.
Official Correspondence
In our socially-distanced and ever-growing society, it has become increasingly tempting for corporations and other large organizations to attempt to avoid dealing with actual people by hiding behind layers of administration and unwitting bureaucrats. Just think of the immense challenge to actually speak with a real, live decision-maker at an insurance company or at a public utility. We can help you to write correspondence that those hiding in the C-suites of big organizations just cannot ignore and, thereby, get you the audience — and hopefully redress — you deserve.
